Voyager RSS Reader: More Designers Experimenting with 3D UIs The use of 3D is pretty limited on the web right now but it’s interesting to see people experimenting with it. Voyager, an RSS reader made by Andy Biggs, displays news feeds chronologically with current messages in the foreground and older messages in the background. As you use your mouse scroll wheel you move through the present into the past, with messages floating beyond you. It reminded me of the introductory text at the beginning of the Star Wars movies. Applying depth to screen content to convey time or other concepts opens up a world of possibility. Certainly when trying to communicate some real life experiences, depth can be used to emulate the usual way the item or content is experienced.

One of the newer companies trying to improve on YouTube's offerings is 3rd Eye Solutions which has an app called iDesktop.tv (formerly known as "YouTube Desktop"), that lets you browse, view, and search YouTube videos in a similar style to a desktop application. Read the article here.
